The Renowned Musician Calls On Support to Send Together for Palestine Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The effort seeks to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It has a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The track was produced after a major charity concert held in the autumn. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a trio of music creators. The track showcases a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The group managing the initiative have clarified that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was noted for its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of buildings reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a couple of million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is above all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from mid-December.
