One of the co-founders of the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction for a new pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the company with his partner, announced how he plans to personally create this new product within an individual series highlighting causes the company has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Between Creators versus Parent Company

This latest announcement intensifies the continuing disagreement among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods corporation that has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

Both founders have claimed how Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked their company from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Flavor becoming an Emblem of Support

The entrepreneur revealed via social media that he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions regarding naming options and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem for support for Palestinians because of its colors, which match the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement and Current Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

The new product line is being created through Ben's Best, the activist dessert company which was first created several years back for endorsing former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts and Future Intentions

The founder revealed that he plans to create other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, after many years of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined after corporate moves to curb its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen commented that “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence so that it can fulfill its ethical purpose, the values that it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he told journalists.
