The United Kingdom is set to progress with using the total value of frozen Russian funds to bolster the Ukrainian defense operations, PM Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the Britain, France, and Germany emphasized that this unified step would increase strain on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the move would be executed in strong partnership with the US.

UK restrictions have frozen over £25bn of Russian assets since the Russian government launched its widespread offensive against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. Yet, previously, resources allocated to Ukraine using Russia's funds had only been sourced from gains and dividends earned on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their desire to push forward toward utilizing the total worth of the frozen Russian sovereign funds to conclude the conflict.

He stated that additional measures soon would heighten the tension on Russia.

This announcement follows European leaders gathered in Copenhagen recently to consider using immobilized Russia's funds for a 140-billion-euro credit to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, US President Donald Trump urged G7 allies to seize or employ frozen Russian assets, based on media sources.

The value of seized Russia's holdings in the EU is calculated to be approximately €211bn.

President Zelensky calls on UK's Sir Keir Starmer to participate in the Purl initiative

Moscow launched large-scale aerial attacks all over the Ukrainian territory on recently, resulting in electricity outages in many areas of Kyiv, the city, and multiple additional areas.

A pair of individuals were fatally injured and at least 20 people were hurt in the strike, authorities in Ukraine stated.

In a update on X following the incident, Zelensky commented that the premeditated assault targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.

"The necessity is not just talk but concrete steps - from the United States, the European Union, and the Group of Seven - in delivering anti-aircraft weapons and implementing restrictions," he emphasized.

"Each restrictive measure diminishes Russia's war machine," Zelensky wrote, in a different message.

Additionally that day, Zelensky stated to the press he would encourage Sir Keir to participate in the Purl program, under which Nato countries purchase weapons from the United States to give to Ukraine.

While commending the Britain's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he said it should send a clear signal that it would participate in the initiative, as well as impose further sanctions on the Russian Federation.
