Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:
- Each team has only 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
