The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has resigned as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This follows a legal ruling that challenged her right to occupy the role.

Official Departure

US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, confirmed the prosecutor's departure on Monday. In a statement that the appeals court finding made it "untenable" for her to perform her duties.

"Do not interpret following the order as giving up," she declared. "This battle will now extend throughout the nation."

Judicial Challenge

Habba's exit comes a week after a federal appellate panel ruled that she had been acting without proper authority as US attorney. This ruling is expected to impact numerous legal proceedings in the state.

The judicial panel said that a acting appointment that skirted Senate approval violated the federal law governing appointments.

Future Role and Reaction

Bondi said that the former prosecutor will stay on at the Department of Justice as a high-level advisor. They intend to pursue additional appeals of the court's action, with hopes of a reversal.

Writing online, the Attorney General wrote that the court "cannot be permitted to second-guess the appointment of lawyers entrusted with executing the fundamental role of the presidency of enforcing the law."

The attorney general praised the prosecutor's work and noted that while she was in charge, the Newark saw a one-fifth decrease in offenses. It was also reported that the city of Camden experienced its initial homicide-free summer since 1974 with no murders.

Connection to Donald Trump

The 41-year-old attorney, first joined Trump's personal legal team in 2021. She later represented her client in his hush-money trial in New York last year, when he was conviction on multiple felony counts of falsifying business records.

Prior to Habba took on the federal prosecutor position, the former president had stated he was appointing her as his senior adviser in a potential future term, calling her as a steadfast ally and a relentless legal advocate.
